Liposuction defined
Liposuction is defined as the removal of fat from deposits beneath the
skin using hollow stainless steel tube ( called a cannula) with the g )
assistance of a powerful vacuum. Liposuction can be accomplished
either with the use of general anesthesia, or with heavy IV sedation, or
totally by local anesthesia.

Laser assisted Liposuction (LAL)
Is the delivery of laser energy to subcutaneous tissue by an optic
fiber before or after liposuction

Laser Lipolysis
is the delivery of laser energy to subcutaneous tissue by an optic
fiber without liposuction
Laser Lipolysis procedure involves an optical fiber extending 2 mm
beyond the tip of a 1 mm diameter microcannula inserted through a
tiny fat skin incision into subcutaneous fat. The optic fiber is moved
throughout the fat in a pattern resembling the spokes of a fan.

Tumescent Liposuction
Tumescent liposuction refers to a technique that uses large
volumes of very dilute local anesthesia that is injected into fat
causing the areas to become tumescent or swollen or firm. Local g
anesthesia is widely regarded as the safest form of anesthesia.
Because local anesthesia persist for many hours there is no need
surgery for narcotic pain medications after surgery.

Tumescent technique is safest
The tumescent technique for liposuction is unquestionably the
f f f safest form of liposuction.
There have been no reported deaths associated with tumescent
liposuction totally by local anesthesia. Even when general
anesthesia is combined with the tumescent technique, liposuction is
quite safe provided the volume of fat removed and the number of q p
areas treated during a single surgery is not excessive.
The dilute epinephrine contained in the tumescent anesthetic
solution profoundly shrinks capillaries and thus virtually eliminates
surgical blood loss.

Mechanism
